Andrew Richard Haas

Andrew Richard Haas is a New York based designer focused on computationally driven approaches for advanced modelling and high-performance design. He received his Master’s in Emerging Technologies & Design at the Architectural Association (AA) in London and his Bachelor of Science at the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities. He has professional experience at Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA); Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM); Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF); and Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG). He has taught internationally, including at the Architectural Association, Hong Kong University, IAAC, and Tsinghua University, among others, and is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor at Pratt Institute. He is an Emerging Leader for the Regional Plan Association, Board Advisory Group member for the Council for Tall Building and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), and Founder of the New York Digital Design Community, a forum dedicated to advancements in design through technology. https://www.digitaldesigncommunity.com/

Paul Clemens Bart

Paul Clemens Bart is a German architect, entrepreneur and educator based in Brooklyn, NYC. He is managing partner of the spatial innovation studio Beta Realities and co-founder of the building technology company BetaPort Systems / Urban Beta.

 At his studio Paul works on participatory methods to create inclusive, unconventional, and transformative spaces through predictive planning. The studio’s aim is the greater democratization of technology for construction and architecture with a strong focus on positive social and ecological footprints.

2023 Urban Beta was named 'Best New Practice of the Year' by ArchDaily.

 Paul is actively engaged in the profession’s discourse, teaching at various universities, including the MIT SA+P, Pratt University, The Cooper Union, UCL The Bartlett and the Architectural Association London.

Paul holds a MSc (Dipl. Ing. Univ. eqv.) in Architecture from Technical University of Munich and a MArch from the Architectural Association’s Design Research Lab in London.

He has over 10 years of industry experience in leading positions at renowned architectural offices such as Zaha Hadid Architects London and Bjarke Ingels Group NYC. His award-winning work has been patented and widely published in the trade press and media, such as WIRED Magazine, CNN Style, Bloomberg Business Week, the Financial Times and DETAIL Magazine.

Angela (Ya Wen) Huang

INSTRUCTOR

Angela Huang is a registered Architect based in New York. She received her Master’s Degree in Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania where she was the recipient of the Arthur Spayd Brooke Memorial Prize for exceptional work in Architecture Education as well as the prestigious Studio Prize by Architect Magazine in 2017. She has had the opportunity to work at globally recognized design offices such as UNStudio in Amsterdam, Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) in London, and currently with Skidmore Owings and Merrill in New York, where she specialized in large scale international projects especially tall building and masterplan design. She is co-teaching MS and MArch design studio at Pratt institute, and co-taught design studio at the University of Pennsylvania in both AAD program and the MArch Program for the past couple years. Her work focuses on aesthetics in Architecture and advanced digital design techniques. She has undertaken numerous architectural competitions, including the Lixil International competition, in which she was a finalist. Additionally, in 2018 her work was exhibited at the 16th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale.

Marvin Bratke

INSTRUCTOR

Marvin Bratke is German architect, entrepreneur and managing partner of spatial innovation studio Beta Realities ( www.betarealities.com ). Marvin is CEO of ConTech start-up BetaPort Systems (www.betaport.systems) and founder of the Urban Beta Group of companies ( www.urban-beta.de ) .

At his studio Marvin works on participatory methods to create inclusive, unconventional and transformative spaces through predictive planning. In the studio he collaboratively works on new ways of social inclusion, as well as participatory approaches to co-design, both virtual and physical. Urban Beta’s work aims to enable greater democratization of technology for construction and architecture, focusing on a positive social and ecological footprint.

He combines academia with applied research to integrate emerging technologies, innovation, computational models, and predictive planning into one combined, holistic approach. His studio’s research is backed by the Federal Government of Germany, covered by the “Zukunft Bau” (Future Construction) program of the Federal Ministry of Interior Building and Community. The research project BetaHood became a model project to promote the start of the “New European Bauhaus” initiative.

Marvin is actively engaged in the profession’s discourse, teaching at various universities like the TU Graz, UCL The Bartlett and the AA Visiting School program. He held visiting professorships at Muthesius Academy of Arts in Kiel and Universidad Internacional SEK in Quito. As an invited speaker, he frequently lectures on spatial strategies, architectural innovation and the studio’s research at renowned universities, conferences, and public events, including the Ars Electronica and DETAIL Congress for Transformation. Marvin regularly contributes to the academic discourse through published essays and scientific papers.

Marvin received his diploma architecture top of the semester in at the Technical University Munich (TUM) and the NTU in Singapore. His award-winning work is widely published and frequently exhibited, i.e. at the Architecture Biennale Venice, Experimental Architecture Biennale Prague, Munich Design Week or Forward Festival. He is invited expert and consultant in the academic field to various universities, including University of Innsbruck, TU Delft and École Spéciale d'Architecture in Paris.

Jan Klaska

INSTRUCTOR

Jan Klaska is a licensed Architect from the Czech Republic and holds a Master of Architecture and Urban Design Degree from the Technical University in Prague. His focus lays in design, particularly in advanced computation design and methods, specifically in the advanced development of form and rationalisation of complex geometry. Jan has worked internationally for several high-profile firms, in Prague, Vienna and for 7 years in London and NYC for Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA). Where he has collaborated on a variety of commissions and competitions, ranging from interior urban design, sport venues, infrastructure buildings, cultural projects, and residential and office buildings. He has been involved with from its design inception to final design stages, including the recently finished Al Janoub Football Stadium in Doha, Qatar. In late 2019, Jan joined Populous in New York, where he has worked on multiple high profile international projects. He is active in the academic field, closely collaborating with the AA DRL, AA Visiting School New York and the School of Visual Arts in NYC.
